On 23rd of December 1954, surgeons Dr. Joseph Murray and Dr. JH Harrison with nephrologist Dr. JP Merrill, conducted the first ever successful kidney transplant. 23 year old Ronald Lee Herrick, donated one of his kidneys to his twin brother, Richard.
The brother’s organ gave a new life to Richard. He married the nurse who had cared for him in the recovery and fathered two lovely kids before his death 8 years later.
